Can Work Be Flexible in Sports?

By Gabrielle Brown, Director of Recruiting Operations

I know what you are thinking – flexibility and hybrid working are usually not possible in the sports world. But challenging situations simply pose an opportunity for solutions that are more creative. Even as we move past the COVID-19 era, there is still a level of flexibility that workers are looking for in their roles.

➡ 64% of employees would consider leaving their job if they were not afforded some form of flexibility.
➡ 46% of workers report having higher job satisfaction if they were afforded an opportunity for hybrid work.

As the sports industry is consistently drawing on top talent from various backgrounds, it is important to remember that “success” is defined differently for everyone. Below are tips to help you ensure that your employees can find that work-life harmony. Because let’s be real– balance does not exist, but harmony can.

🧘 Encourage more breaks:

Breaks are not often talked about, but even a 10-minute break can make a huge difference. It allows for someone to take a step away, shift their focus, and come back to the task with a clearer perspective.

🚫 Choose a meeting free period/day during a slower period:

While it is nice to interact with each other and spend time together collaborating, too many meetings can cause a negative effect by limiting creativity, time to think, and professional development of your employees. There is a thought that to be productive, we have to be continuously busy, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

🗓 Encourage autonomy of an employee’s day:

We all know that joyous feeling we get when we feel someone giving us the space to really own something. Whether it be a task, meeting, or new project, autonomy encourages creativity, boosts productivity, and increases motivation. Allowing people to be the lead and structure their days is an incredibly easy way to provide flexibility to your employees.
