Position Summary: 

To support its mission, significant recent and future growth potential, and ensure financial excellence, the WTA is seeking a highly strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the organization’s financial planning, reporting, risk management, and overall fiscal strategy. The CFO will play a critical role in shaping the financial and operational future of the WTA, driving sustainable growth, and optimizing resources to maximize the global impact of women's professional tennis.  The CFO will significantly contribute to the further development of the WTA and it’s positioning in the broader global tennis and sport ecosystem.

Serving as an integrated thought partner and counsel to the leadership, the Board and Finance Committee, Players, and to WTA Ventures, the CFO will proactively participate in organizational decision-making and strategic planning, proactively serving as a true business partner and leader in current operational excellence opportunities and in long-term strategic positioning of the WTA in the global sport landscape.  The CFO will establish transparent systems and reporting to better support the Association and communicate financial information to a variety of stakeholders to analyze and support current operations and future growth.  The CFO will be an active internal and external voice and advocate for the WTA, its Players and its Mission. 

The Chief Financial Officer will collaboratively direct the Tour’s financial planning and accounting practices as well as lead its financial relationship with the Board of Directors, Players and Tournaments.  The CFO will direct and have overall responsibility for internal controls, financial reporting and budgetary controls, and will provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the organization.  Overarchingly, the CFO will oversee all budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, and insurance activities for the Tour.

Competencies:

Transition Management: Proven experience in managing a company through a time of significant growth and structural change; expertise in building the analytical systems and data to drive and support decision making; experience in driving strategic planning in a changing/fluid environment; demonstratable experience in significantly amplifying FP&A/strategic support for future-state.

Governance/Stakeholder Management: Demonstratable success in complex/complicated governance structures; very strong communicator; trusted advisor and advocate for confidence in financial information and business support.

Partnership-Driven: Expertise in serving as a thought partner for business leaders through an analytical and strategic lens; experience in identifying opportunities to drive value in both a future-state perspective and current operational efficiency/prioritization.

Financial Efficiency: Excellence in cash flow management and driving transparency and efficiency of spend and financial investment; demonstratable experience in prioritizing areas of future investment to drive growth and short- & long-term organizational priorities; experience in driving excellence in controls and cash management in a growth environment.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership, management and oversight for all fiscal activities, including general accounting, the annual audit, job cost accounting, budgetary controls, financial analysis, AR collections, VAT Reporting, budget plans, cash flow monitoring, and monthly reports

  • Establish the role and the function as proactive thought-leaders and partners to all stakeholders, inclusive of the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, WTA Members and executive leadership, fully integrating financial information, analysis and support into decision-making and the financial implications (e.g. ROI, valuation, etc.) of all potential business opportunities

  • Serve as a strong people leader with the ability to develop talent both technically and from a leadership perspective

  • Develop and present all financial materials to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee and WTA Members (Tournaments and Players); create a structured cadence and structure to reporting to drive further transparency and departmental efficiency

  • Develop and implement fiscal policies and accountability and control procedures (including the cost accounting system) and analyze and report variances; proactively communicate out to stakeholders’ analysis to drive operational adjustments and/or reforecasts

  • Actively contribute to short- and long-term Strategic Planning for the Tour

  • Drive the development of the organization’s annual budget and cash flow projections

  • Oversee the development of assorted budget analyses as generated or required by proposals, amendments, and changes

  • Oversee financial management of emerging foreign operations to include developing financial and budget policies and procedures

  • Ensures routine accounting, payroll, and expense reporting is performed timely and accurately. Reviews financial reports prepared by Controller or accounting staff

  • Consults with Player Benefit Association, BOD, and Tournament Directors regarding financial issues related to budgets, forecasts, insurance, pension, etc.

  • Acts as Treasurer in activities as custodian of funds, directing investments, securities, and assets of the Tour

  • Establishes and maintains banking relationships

  • Serve as point person for annual audit process

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly desired

  • Minimum of 15 years finance and accounting experience including significant experience in leading and building effective, motivated teams

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, income tax issues in a global environment

  • Intelligent, entrepreneurial leader with partnership mentality, and significant experience running day-to-day financial operations in a multicultural environment

  • Strong consensus builder with ability to bring together for greater good multiple stakeholder groups with potentially divergent views. The successful candidate must understand and appreciate (or has the capacity to) the member’s interests and have demonstrated an ability to build consensus among multiple constituents

  • Superior team leadership skills, including ability to create an organized, efficient and enthusiastic team of highly skilled executives, as well as a culture of accountability and commitment to achieving results

  • Excellent, proactive communication and presentation skills

  • Advanced user of spreadsheet software (Excel); Working knowledge of Mas 90 accounting software (preferred)
