WTA Ventures is the commercial arm of the WTA, created in March 2023 as part of the WTA’s strategic partnership with CVC Capital Partners. It aims to build upon the strong legacy of the WTA by further elevating the profile of women’s tennis and accelerating commercial growth for the benefit of fans, players, tournaments, and all stakeholders in the sport.

The Role

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Media Rights will lead the strategic development, execution, and management of the WTA’s media rights landscape. This newly created position offers a unique opportunity to build and shape the future of the in-house media rights strategy, working with a diverse range of global broadcasters and media partners.

The ideal candidate will possess 15+ years of senior experience in media rights management, with an established network and deep relationships across broadcasters, particularly in Europe and the Middle East. They will be responsible for driving the development of the WTA media rights strategy, executing deals, and leading the growth of the media rights function from the ground up. The role will also involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams, while providing strategic leadership to a team as it develops. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development & Execution:

    • Lead the development of a comprehensive media rights strategy for the organization.

    • Execute and manage media rights agreements, with an initial focus on Europe and the Middle East.

    • Drive negotiations and deal-making with broadcasters, digital platforms, and other media rights partners.

  • Global Relationships & Market Intelligence:

    • Leverage an established network within global broadcasters, media rights holders, and digital platforms, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, to drive value for the organization.

    • Stay ahead of trends in the media landscape, including the rise of new platforms, shifts in broadcasting rights, and digital transformations.

    • Have strategic thinking and long term view on the global media landscape to ensure that WTA is set up for sustainable long term growth.

  • Execution & Reporting:

    • Work closely with legal, finance, partnerships and marketing teams to execute and finalize media rights deals.

    • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for media rights strategies, ensuring the organization meets and exceeds revenue and partnership goals.

    • Ensure that the media rights function is scalable and able to manage an increasing volume of deals as the company grows.

  • Team Leadership & Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, including legal, finance, marketing, and content teams, to ensure successful partnerships and execution of media rights deals.

    • Build, develop, and manage a high-performing media rights team as the function grows, starting with strategic, research, and account management support.

    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to team members, ensuring that short-term execution aligns with long-term strategic goals.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of leadership experience in sports media rights, with a proven track record of successfully negotiating and executing media rights agreements.

  • Deep and established relationships with broadcasters, content distributors, and digital platforms, particularly within Europe and the Middle East.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance high-level vision and detailed execution.

  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills and experience influencing and managing directly both junior and senior stakeholders.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, including senior leadership and external partners.

  • Knowledge of the global media landscape, digital platforms, and emerging trends in media consumption.

  • Ability to travel extensively globally with initial focus on Europe and the Middle East.

George Williams - Managing Director, UK & Europe

George Williams joined TurnkeyZRG in 2023 to lead the organization’s international expansion into Europe. Based in London, he brings over 15 years of executive search experience across Sport & Media. George will also work closely with ZRG’s Sucherman division to support its ongoing growth in the region. Prior to joining TurnkeyZRG, George was a Partner at Savannah Group, where he led and grew the organization’s Sport & Media Practice across Europe. He previously served at Odgers Berndtson as an Associate, supporting the launch of their Sports Practice and leading the delivery of multiple assignments.

Paddy Hickey - Senior Associate

Paddy Hickey joined TurnkeyZRG in 2024 as a Senior Associate. Based in London, Paddy will focus on leading and executing cross-functional executive search processes for a broad range of clients in European sport, media and entertainment. Prior to joining TurnkeyZRG, Paddy was an Associate at SRI.

Paddy has a track record of identifying and placing top talent on behalf of clients that include rights holders, governing bodies, international sporting federations, Premier League football clubs and Formula 1 teams. His experience encompasses a broad range of functions, having built expertise in commercial, finance, legal, technology, HR and sustainability assignments. Placed candidates include sport industry veterans and high-impact talent from adjacent sectors.
