Background: 

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), located in Washington, D.C., is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in the country with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports. MSE owns and operates five professional sports teams: the NBA's Washington Wizards, NBA G League’s Capital City Go-Go, NBA 2K League’s Wizards District Gaming, the 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, and the 2019 WNBA Champion Washington Mystics. In addition, MSE is also co-owner of aXiomatic, which has controlling interest in global esports franchise Team Liquid, and owns and operates Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Further diving into the venue sector, MSE also manages MedStar Capitals Iceplex, the state-of-the-art training facility for the Capitals, and EagleBank Arena on George Mason University's campus. In conjunction with the District of Columbia and Events DC, MSE is a partner in a sports and entertainment facility in Southeast DC on the St. Elizabeth’s East campus that opened in September 2018. Facility highlights include MedStar Wizards Performance Center, the brand-new training facility for the Wizards, Go-Go and Mystics, and a 4,200-seat arena which is the home of the Mystics and Go-Go.

With eyes set on the future, MSE acquired the remaining 67% of NBC Sports Washington for full ownership in 2022 with the goal of being the region’s top destination for exclusive fan experiences and original sports content across desktop, tablet, mobile and OTT streaming devices. The value of live local major league sports rights is well documented. As consumer viewing behavior evolves for live sports, a new paradigm shift approaches for how these live rights may be delivered to fans. We are seeking a collaborative executive with experience in content licensing across all platforms, legacy and streaming to help drive fan awareness and subscriber engagement.

Position Summary: 

The Senior Vice President of Media Distribution and Business Development manages all of the All-In-One Network’s affiliate relationships with existing MVPDs and vMVPDs but will also be at the forefront on the next generation distribution platforms. This role is responsible for growing or maintaining the nine-figure revenue stream driven by cable subscriptions today. This role manages current relationships between the All-In-One Net and its various affiliate partners, negotiates renewals with current partners, and brokers new deals with emerging platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Establish a deep understanding for the network’s existing affiliate deals with all MVPD and vMVPD distributors.

  • Provide point of view on trends happening across the entire linear and digital distribution world and become the organization’s subject matter expert on all such topics with a specific eye towards other regional sports network carriage agreements.

  • Foster active and positive relationships between the network and its affiliate partners that facilitate attractive renewal agreements or new contracts that deliver growth and economic benefits to the company.

  • Develop and execute renewal strategies for existing MVPD and vMVPD partners, while also identifying and executing new partnerships for the network which will increase distribution, subscriber growth, and create new marketing opportunities with new and emerging distributors in the future.

  • Offer alternative strategies and opportunities to management and affiliates that benefit all parties from the standpoints of deal economics and distribution terms.

  • Lead all negotiations with distributors to maximize network revenues, with additional emphasis on maximizing distribution and revenue.

  • Work with the marketing lead to create materials to share with distributors to assist with renewal and new deal conversations.

  • Works with digital media, live production, and marketing teams to maximize revenues and profitability for the entire network.

  • Also works with Business Intelligence team and external sources to complete market research on new business opportunities.

  • Identify, build strategies for new revenue streams with a focus on business development

  • Related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA or JD preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience working in an established media company, specifically within a linear distribution team for a singular network or a family of networks.

  • Brings robust relationships across the media and sports industry including distributors.

  • Demonstrated experience in conceptualizing, structuring, and/or building new business models/ventures in digital and direct-to-consumer media products.

  • Experience contributing to and managing multiple high-pace and time sensitive projects, simultaneously.

  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact comfortably and effectively with internal and external colleagues at all levels of an organization. 

  • Highly motivated individual, strategic analytical and critical thinker with strong organization skills and attention to detail who delivers objectives and completes tasks in a timely and organized manner.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.

  • Role can be remote but East Coast preferred. Frequent and consistent visits to DC to build rapport internally and to conduct important business and/or negotiations.
