Position Summary:

Downtown Music Publishing seeks an experienced and strategic Vice President, Business Development. The successful candidate will bring a robust and diverse professional network, enabling them to drive impact and deliver results immediately upon assuming the role. The Vice President will play a pivotal part in driving business growth by strategically identifying, engaging, and converting high-value rightsholders—creators, labels, publishers, and their representatives—into key partners for Downtown Music Publishing. In addition, the position will serve as a key ambassador for Downtown, representing the company at influential industry events to strengthen its market position, expand strategic partnerships, and solidify its leadership in the global music ecosystem.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify publishing administration opportunities focusing on high-level strategic structures and working in line with identified client types. 

  • Coordinate opportunities for high-level business development presentations for managers, lawyers, and other potential partners to be taken with Downtown key executives across designated focus markets. 

  • Reveal high-level sub-publishing opportunities, strategic partnerships, and other B2B projects that would benefit from Downtown’s suite of services. 

  • Manage Downtown’s business development staff in the Americas and coordinate with our global business development teams to strategically canvas the marketplace in an effort to drive revenue via new signings. 

  • Partner with Downtown’s creative and catalog teams to introduce potential collaborators for value-add executions for our existing roster. 

  • Introduce strategic partners who have the potential to enhance team workflows. 

  • Identify key cross-selling opportunities across the Downtown businesses and service offerings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Expansive network within the music publishing sector, particularly with outbound deal brokers. 

  • Proven ability to manage projects and drive deals from initial opportunity to final negotiation and closure. 

  • Demonstrated leadership in strategically deploying staff, cultivating a culture of mentorship, driving exceptional team performance, and achieving outstanding results. 

  • Direct experience in prospecting, engaging, and closing leads effectively. 

  • Understanding of sales performance metrics and their application.  

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to deliver compelling presentations. 

  • Familiarity with G-suite. 

  • Up-to-date knowledge of trends in music publishing, copyright law, and the evolving music rights landscape, including developments in streaming, digital licensing, and global markets.  

Background Requirements:

  • 7+ years of direct experience in music industry business development roles.  

  • Bachelor’s degree
