Position Summary: 

The Senior Vice President of Ballpark Operations (the “SVP”) is responsible for overseeing the overall management, maintenance, and operational efficiency of Rate Field. A member of the senior management team, the SVP ensures a world-class experience for fans, players, and staff by leading all aspects of ballpark operations, including facility management/groundskeeping, security, guest services, concessions, parking, and capital improvement projects.

The SVP will provide strong leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to enhance ballpark functionality, safety, and sustainability. The SVP will also work closely with MLB officials, city/state agencies, and vendors to ensure compliance with league regulations and local ordinances. This position will also oversee the purchasing group.

Key responsibilities include developing and executing long-term facility improvement plans, overseeing day-to-day maintenance and event operations, managing budgets, and implementing best practices for operational and guest experience excellence. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in stadium operations, a commitment to delivering an exceptional fan experience, and the ability to lead a high-performing team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This position will also include operational responsibilities at Camelback Ranch, the shared spring training facility of the White Sox and Dodgers.

At Camelback Ranch, the role will have direct oversight of White Sox-owned spaces, including the clubhouse, office building, and training fields. Additionally, the position will share oversight of the stadium with the Dodgers. The individual in this role will likely be appointed to the board that manages the joint venture overseeing facility operations.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Strategic Planning and Innovation:

    • Collaborate with senior leadership to set long-term strategic goals for ballpark operations.

    • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and innovations, leveraging technology and best practices to improve efficiency.

  2. Operational Oversight:

    • Oversee all aspects of ballpark operations, including maintenance, facilities management, security, concessions, parking, guest services, and other operational functions.

    • Ensure the ballpark is maintained to the highest standards for safety, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction.

    • Work closely with all departments to ensure smooth operations before, during, and after games and events.

  3. Fan Experience:

    • Enhance the fan experience through the implementation of innovative services, amenities, and fan engagement initiatives.

    • Respond to fan feedback, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for attendees.

  4. Event Management:

    • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate events, including MLB games, concerts, and other special events hosted at the ballpark.

    • Develop and implement event-day operations plans, ensuring a seamless experience for fans, staff, and players.

  5. Staff Leadership:

    • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of operations managers, supervisors, and staff, ensuring that all team members are effectively trained and motivated.

    • Ensure that all staff are aligned with organizational goals, the MLB brand, and customer service standards.

  6. Budget and Financial Management:

    • Develop and manage budgets for ballpark operations, including costs associated with maintenance, staffing, security, and event execution.

    • Implement cost-control measures while maintaining high-quality service standards.

  7. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all ballpark operations comply with safety regulations, MLB guidelines, and local, state, and federal laws.

    • Oversee emergency response plans, crowd control strategies, and other safety procedures to protect fans and staff.

  8. Vendor and Contract Management:

    • Oversee the selection, management, and performance of external vendors (e.g., food and beverage suppliers, cleaning services, etc.).

    • Negotiate contracts and ensure that service providers meet performance expectations and standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field; Advanced degree or other relevant certifications a plus.

  • Experience: Extensive experience in ballpark, stadium and/or sports facility operational leadership, ideally with a background in sports management or large-scale event management. Proven leadership and team management experience are critical.

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership and communication skills.

    • Expertise in budget management, operations, and logistics.

    • Knowledge of event planning, customer service, and safety protocols.

    • Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations.

    • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with staff, vendors, and fans.

Work Environment:

  • The SVP of Ballpark Operations would work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, often requiring long hours during the baseball season. This could include nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during games and events.
