Position Summary:  

The Vice President, Facility Operations & Engineering (the “VP”) is responsible for providing technical expertise in the development and execution of strategic plans and supporting business plans for Rogers Arena, an 18,000+ seat professional ice hockey and entertainment arena. This position will also provide technical expertise to operational teams of Rogers Arena and Abbotsford Centre. The VP will act as primary executive lead on large maintenance projects at Rogers Arena and will be responsible for CSE’s Corporate Capital Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and provide strategic leadership for the technical aspects of energy and cost efficient arena operations of Rogers Arena. 

  • Provide senior leadership to the Facilities Operations team at Rogers Arena who is responsible for the effective operation, upgrade and maintenance of Rogers Arena, NHL quality ice and related equipment. 

  • Provide technical expertise and advice to leaders of Abbotsford Centre, as required. 

  • Act as Executive on Duty at events held at Rogers arena. 

  • In collaboration with other members of the leadership team, develop and foster integrated initiatives that promote the ultimate hockey, lacrosse, and event experience. 

  • Oversee and lead major maintenance projects that impact Rogers Arena such as building development and exclusive events. 

  • Provide executive leadership for various arena construction projects affiliated with and on behalf of CSE and liaise with AG (Aquilini Group) representatives and construction project managers with the best interests of CSE in mind. 

  • Develop, manage, and execute the capital plan for all of Rogers Arena. 

  • Develop and maintain close strategic partnerships and oversee all issues that arise with external partners who support Arena Operations. 

  • Work closely with CSE Ownership and Senior Leadership Team on initiatives that significantly affect strategic objectives of the organization. 

  • Serve as a committed and responsible member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic planning process. 

  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Required Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Post-secondary university education in a related field of study with formal education in engineering (civil or mechanical) and/or construction, with preference given to those with a degree in mechanical engineering. 

  • 10 years’ experience in a directly related role as part of a high performance, fan/customer focused organization; previous technical experience and expertise in a professional sports and entertainment venue is preferred. 

  • Demonstrated success in managing large capital projects (i.e. on time and on budget) and developing and managing corporate capital budgets. 

  • Consistently demonstrates and lives by our corporate values of Discipline, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Mindset. 

  • Solid project management experience, including project plan development and budget development and management. 

  • An inspirational leader with solid experience in leading, motivating and developing employees. 

  • Experience with creating successful building initiatives that focus on the customer experience. 

  • Extensive knowledge and an understanding in all aspects of commercial construction and building maintenance. 

  • Expertise with arena ice plants is an asset. 

  • Experience creating strategic directions for businesses, including the development of tactical details while maintaining a clear view of the big picture. 

  • Proven record of developing and maintaining strong partnerships and collaborative spirit with peers in all lines of the business. 

  • A strong record of personal and team achievement over his/her career with substantial personal contributions to the positive evolution of the business through innovative thinking and an ability to make things happen. 

  • Professional business acumen and savvy. 

  • Superior listening skills with a level of intellectual ability/agility. 

  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization ahead of his/her own.
